The project to consist of approximately 22,500 sq. ft. The goal to provide suitable space for the clinical support staff that serve the inpatient units on the 5th and 7th floors. The support staff to include space for social workers, physicians, nutritionists, education staff. The majority of the renovation will result in offices, conference, storage, and staff workrooms, a clean and soiled utility rooms, reception area, lactation room, electrical closet, and restrooms. The clinical areas include EMG and NVC exam rooms. The existing Sleep Lab and Physical Therapy department currently located on the 6th floor are to remain on the 6th floor. The sleep lab serves a dual patient role of seeing patients mainly in the evening but during the day the sleep rooms are also used for neurological testing serving as Electromyography (EMG) and Nerve Conduction Velocity (NCV) exams. The sleep lab will have to remain in operation during construction, and a phased schedule is required.

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System (NWIHCS), the Iowa City VA Medical Center intends to issue an Invitation for Bid (IFB) in accordance with the procedures set forth in Part 14 and 36 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR). Network Contracting Office 23 (NCO23) intends to award a single, firm fixed-price contract for completion of construction Project Number 636A8-22-001, Renovate Dialysis Clinic at the VA NWIHCS, Iowa City VA Medical Center in Iowa City, Iowa. An IFB is planned to be issued on or about 15 June 2026, with an anticipated award date within 60 calendar days from bid opening date. The Iowa City VA Medical Center currently has a need to renovate the 6th Floor Clinical Support at the Iowa City VAMC. The primary objective of the project is to provide suitable space for the clinical support staff that serve the inpatient units on the 5th and 7th floors. The contractor will be required to provide all tools, materials, equipment, labor, and supervision necessary to complete the project in accordance with the drawings, specifications, and scope of work. This is an operational (VA) Medical Center, and all construction work shall be planned and executed to have no impact on daily operations. The period of performance for this work is 371 calendar days from issuance of Notice to Proceed (NTP). A Notice to Proceed date/issuance will be coordinated between VA and Contractor to ensure that there is no interference with patient care.
